Basic concepts

To make effective use of OSLO, you should be familiar with several basic concepts. Some of these concern the user interface; others relate to basic algorithms that OSLO uses. OSLO contains an integrated, interactive development environment for optical design, and can be applied to a wider range of tasks than typical optical design software. Because of this, some restrictions that are typically found in lens design programs (limited numbers of wavelengths, field points, etc.) are not present in OSLO. This section describes several concepts that will help you to use OSLO effectively.
